This is a dual-role position combining high-level tax compliance and advisory work with hands-on bookkeeping and administrative support. The role is ideal for a capable, detail-oriented professional who can operate across multiple platforms, maintain excellent client relationships, and contribute to the efficiency and accuracy of practice operations.
Accountant Role – 60% of Role
Overview
This component of the role provides advanced tax compliance and advisory services, working closely with clients and internal staff to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant outcomes. The accountant supports workflow management, contributes to process improvement, and plays a key role in delivering a high standard of client service.
Key Responsibilities
1. Tax Compliance and Preparation
| • | Prepare income tax returns for individuals, companies, trusts, and partnerships. |
| • | Complete BAS, IAS, FBT, PAYG, and other statutory lodgements. |
| • | Ensure all returns are compliant with ATO requirements and current legislation. |
| • | Manage tax lodgement programs, extensions, and respond to ATO correspondence. |
| • | Maintain accurate data entry, reconciliation, and documentation using Xero Tax, Xpm, Hubdoc, FYI, and CAS 360. Some clients use MYOB, QuickBooks and Reckon this needs entered into Xero ledgers |
2. Tax Planning and Advisory
| • | Assist with tax planning and structuring advice for clients. |
| • | Identify tax minimisation strategies and business improvement opportunities. |
| • | Support clients with CGT, small business concessions, Division 7A, and other technical matters. |
| • | Assist with trust distributions, inter-entity transactions, and corporate structuring. |
| • | Stay informed of legislative and regulatory changes impacting clients. |
3. Client Relationships and Service
| • | Liaise directly with clients to obtain outstanding information and documentation required to complete returns and lodgements. |
| • | Follow up on outstanding action items to keep work moving efficiently. |
| • | Respond to client and ATO queries promptly and professionally. |
| • | Educate clients on tax obligations and compliance requirements. |
4. Technical Expertise and Review
| • | Research complex tax matters and provide accurate, concise written advice. |
| • | Maintain and enhance internal procedures and checklists using FYI Docs, Fyi Knowledge, Scribe, and Loom. Additionally, we will email subscribers updates. |
5. Continuous Improvement and Technology
| • | Leverage platforms such as Xero, Xero Tax, Ignition, FYI, AccountKit, and CAS 360 for workflow efficiency. |
| • | Support digital transformation through automation tools and documentation of processes using Loom and Scribe. |
Skills and Attributes
| • | Strong technical tax knowledge and practical problem-solving ability. |

Qualifications and Experience
| • | 5+ years’ experience in public practice accounting. |
| • | Degree qualified in Accounting, Commerce, or Business. |
| • | Proficient in: MS Office, Xero Tax, XPM, Ignition, FYI Docs, CAS 360, Scribe, Loom, MYOB, QuickBooks, ATO Mate, FuseSign, and other cloud-based tools. |
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
| • | Timeliness and accuracy of lodgements. |
| • | Client satisfaction and responsiveness. |
| • | Meeting ATO deadlines and lodgement targets. |
Bookkeeping & Admin Support – 40% of Role
(25% bookkeeping / 15% admin coordination)
Overview
This part of the role supports clients and internal teams through high-quality bookkeeping and structured workflow coordination. It includes direct client communication, system updates, and maintaining day-to-day accounting and administrative functions.
Key Duties
| • | Maintain and update client information across XPM, Xero, Ignition, and FYI. |
| • | Perform client bookkeeping including reconciliations, BAS, STP, PAYG, superannuation, and management reporting. |
| • | Draft financials and prepare accounts for review. |
| • | Manage invoicing and document execution via FuseSign, Fyi or Xero see client notes in XPM 1st option is xero but some clients prefer fuse sign etc. |
| • | Follow up with clients to obtain outstanding documents and information required for onboarding, BAS and accounting work. |
| • | Send reminders by email for deadlines and outstanding tasks. |
| • | Manage quarterly tax reminders and due dates. |
| • | Support company secretarial tasks and annual review processes in CAS 360. |
| • | Assist with internal workflow tracking and follow-up to ensure work is progressing as scheduled. |
| • | Liaise with the ATO for lodgement queries, payment arrangements, and general enquiries. |
