Testing is crucial in the development of software products or services. That’s why testers are a great need in the production process to analyse, create and execute test cases, report bugs, and errors, and troubleshoot issues. This ensures that the product or service is delivered in good shape which in turn makes the company more reputable and reliable.
These are what Julie makes sure of as a software quality assurance tester. She considers analytical and critical thinking as well as good communication skills important in this role. “We also help in some other tasks assigned [to us], and communicate with our client and our team leaders.”
She has been working in Greymouse for almost two years now and when asked what the best part of it is, she said it was the teamwork and good relationship that is formed with their client, simPRO. She also added that life at Greymouse is very wonderful! There is no such day in Greymouse when she feels like she wants to run away from all these.
She is grateful for the careful consideration Greymouse has implemented for their team’s safety during the COVID outbreak. The company allowed the team to work from home, settled their internet fee as well as provided the equipment needed for the set-up. She is also grateful that their client supported them throughout.
Julie is one of the awardees of the Dev Choice Award. simPro praised her for being amazing! Her team says she never stops and never bothers anyone unless she’s left with no choice. “I always tell myself to do well at work— give my shoulder a pat when I do a great job.” She also does the same for her team.
“Quality is not an act. It is a habit.”
She said, knowing how big or small the situation is before making a decision is important. “You should always weigh the pros and cons and consult others before concluding.” She thinks education is a stepping stone in preparing for your future, but experience determines success and helps you create the path where you want to head to.
What she loves about her job is the rewarding experience of being involved in a project at its early stages and seeing it go through the process of completion and release.
Julie hopes Greymouse would be more successful and able to provide more jobs and have more clients in the future.
“I think when you hear the phrase ‘it’s just test code’. To me, that’s a code smell.”
