Types Of Leaders You Need In Your Team
Published by: Marisa Wiman | 21 May, 2018
Leaders do not come from the same mold. They are not “created” equal. They have varied strengths and focus. They have different weaknesses. But if you have a growing virtual assistant business you need three specific types of leaders in your team. These are leaders who can get your organisation to the top. In fact, the sustainability of your success will be dictated by these leaders. The quality of the command and control of your organization is also at the hands of these select few individuals. Read on and know more about them!
Motivational leaders
Motivational leaders are very good at what they do, in fact, people follow them because of their skill, their mastery of their craft. They attract people because they speak wisdom, they embody experience, they have interesting stories and they have a solid character. These leaders have a contagious positive outlook about what they do and why they do it. They continually strive to add value to themselves, the people they work with, to the business, even in their families and their community.
These leaders are worth keeping because they move people to perform and to strive to be better at what they do. They allow the team to see what can be done to make things better and how important their individual effort is to the whole group’s journey towards success.
Most motivational leaders are not keen or unable to replicate themselves. This is considered their biggest weakness.
Inspirational leaders
Inspirational leaders help rising leaders really understand what it takes to be followed and to be an influencer. Managers and relationship-centric supervisors are the main audience of inspirational leaders. These leaders are always improving themselves, not just for their own sake but also for others who are looking up to them.
Self-improvement is part of their daily routine and this is also what draws people closer to them. They care less about processes and performance metrics as their focus is people and affecting individuals around them in a personal level – their ultimate goal is character formation.
You need these type of virtual assistant leaders because they improve the character of next-in-line leaders and they encourage everyone in the company to be better people. What you get is an organisation that is not only performing well but is also compliant and ethical.
Transformational leaders
High above the hierarchy of leaders is the transformational type. These leaders have a long, proven history of touching other people’s lives, of producing leaders through the years – their reputation precedes them. For these leaders, it does not matter what department you belong to, or even if you are in the same organisation or industry. Transformational leaders have mastered the principles of leading and so they are able to influence others in so many ways, in different levels.
Having these leaders in the organization is getting your business ready for global expansion, or expansions that demand a mature command structure, able to deal with difficult and very challenging situations. These leaders have also mastered mentoring and replicating themselves, transforming people to be the best that they can ever be.
These three types of leaders – motivational, inspirational, and transformational, they take time to nurture and grow. But they are already inside your organisation. The key is identifying them and making sure they are coached, equipped, and given the opportunity to hone their virtual assistant leadership potential.
