At Greymouse working virtually has been in our DNA from the very beginning. Our very own IT Engineer, Tevita (Te), has had 6 years of experience on how to become and thrive as a virtual IT engineer.
Tevita has spent his career delving into today’s fast-moving, cutting-edge technology, and believes that you have to get out of your comfort zone and explore what technology has to offer. Daily, our IT engineer maintains records of daily data communication transactions, problems and remedial actions taken, or installation activities. They answer user inquiries regarding computer software or hardware operation to resolve problems. So what can you expect from an IT support engineer?
Here are just a few tasks that Te usually takes care of:
• Setting up or fixing networks
• Installing virus, spyware, and spam software
• Scanning for viruses, spyware, and spam and removing any troublesome issues
• Installing firewalls
• Installing software
• Troubleshooting and repairing computer problems
• Reformatting hard drives
• Helping set up computer systems in a home or office
• Setting up wireless modems
• Helping recover lost data
• Backing up data
• Upgrading computer
• Installing computer components such as printers and scanners
• Removing unnecessary or unwanted software
• Tweaking settings for improved computer speeds and performance
A day in the life of a software engineer is ever-changing and working as an IT engineer has been a family-driven motivation for Tevita. While there are definite trends across the profession, the truth is that IT engineers can work just about anywhere. From design companies, to finance, to manufacturing, software engineers are needed across the board, and that’s exactly what makes this career path so interesting.
You just need to follow simple steps to make your career hot and happening, from Te:
• Have a Girlfriend. It has two logic’s; One you have guts to impress a girl. Second, she will help you to make you look human. Singles are not stupid though, even they are happier for their reasons.
• Read books(Motivational) at-least once in a month. But please don’t read 50 shades on other days.
• Believe in sharing knowledge. Don’t believe in the hypocrisy, if he learns, you lose.
• Play games with the team, keep yourself fit in anyways and spend time with the team.
If you are working in any startup, work like it’s your company. You will earn money, power and value.
