A Day In the Life: General Manager

Published by: Greymouse Marketing | 9 November, 2020

Ever wondered what a day in the life of a Greymouse Virtual Workforce Managing Director is like and what are the challenges they need to overcome on a daily basis?

In reality, our Virtual Workforce Managing Director does have loads to deal with: when it comes all the way down to it, they have responsibility for the general efficiency and budget of the organization, and in the end create the inspiration behind the name of the companies success.

Faiyaz Khan is and has been the man behind the rapid expansion of Greymouse.

Faiyaz joined the team back in 2013 as an accountant, and has occupied several leadership roles within Greymouse leading up to his position now as the General Manager.

Along the years of his leadership, he has brought cost-effective solutions for our clients and growing the teams operations into the Philippines. He has helped in creating more transformational jobs and tailored solutions for clients. This is the advocacy of Greymouse to help businesses succeed and alleviate poverty in developing countries.

In his role, there’s no such thing as a typical day, and that’s what keeps the job so exciting and fresh. Although you may imagine a Managing Director to be powerful, sitting in their offices, issuing instructions and delegating work to their employees, in actuality, they work both ways. Time at work for Faiyaz falls into a couple of main areas:

Finding new investment opportunities.

Managing Greymouse’s current client accounts.

Developing the team and management.

Any general firm-related activities.

Organizing a give back to the community.

Faiyaz believes that when you find a great team and the client that is the right fit for Greymouse, working with them to help scale their business over time is the goal. Not all investments end up where you envisioned, but working with a client through their ups and downs and seeing them hit their goal is incredibly rewarding.

As a managing director, Faiyaz wears a lot of hats and is ultimately responsible for the overall “feel” of the client and team satisfaction. He also oversees the operational functions, manages all the departments (via the department heads) and is responsible for profitability. It’s a big job that requires a variety of skills with people, critical thinking, communication, organization, computer and financial competence all playing a part. All of these roles require strong relationship management skills.

Faiyaz has a BA in Accounting and Economics, a Certificate in Computing, a Xero Certified Advisor and BAS Certified Agent.
