A Day In The Life Of Zuhaeez, Greymouse Voice/Systems Engineer

Published by: Greymouse Marketing | 20 July, 2022

Our IT team is the heart of the company and the emergency service that ensures everything runs smoothly.

To find out what it looks like to be a Voice/Systems Engineer at Greymouse and how does average day looks like, we asked Zuhaeez to tell us a little about it.

IT Engineers carry out a lot of tasks as their profession requires them to test, install, configure, and maintain any IT infrastructure.

For over a year now, Zuhaeez has been in control of looking after the voice systems, servers and networks of the company and its clients. With countless experiences and certificates to back him up, Zuhaeez is undoubtedly suited for the part!

A typical day as a Voice/Systems Engineer starts by checking the system for any critical problem which needs priority. It is necessary to work with urgency while also making decisions and considering how the following steps will impact the overall system. After resolving these challenges, they will go about their day checking the backups and fixing any issues within the office and with the clients.

Zuhaeez ensures everyone goes about their day without issues and helps keep operations running smoothly. He attends to multiple queries at a time— taking as much information and creating a ticket to resolve the concern. Because of how crucial confidentiality and security are to Greymouse, Zuhaeez and his team strive to prevent risks by staying vigilant and checking if anything seems suspicious.

“Critical thinking is essential in my line of work. I love brainstorming and solving complex issues [and] I look forward to new challenges every day.” Zuhaeez stated.

Being in an increasingly networked and interconnected world makes thinking through all relative aspects for effective planning significant in addressing problems. As some issues require a quick turnaround, having the ability to work at a fast pace is very practical as well. “[Motivation] comes naturally when the team is aware of their roles, and we set targets to motivate [each other]. [It helps to] think things from the company’s perspective, and ensure that no service is downgraded or affected with the decisions I will be making moving forward,” Zuhaaez said.

“The culture [here in Greymouse] is great, and you’ll be surprised [at] how friendly all the employees are.” He handles workplace disappointment by not taking [it] with a heavy heart and instead never letting it affect the service delivery.

When asked what’s his secret behind getting to where he is now, his response was to upskill and always be ready for any spontaneous situations. “[If we] keep pushing and learning, we will get there one day. When the company had a vacant spot for this position, I took it as a challenge and gave my 100% to learn and master Linux and how Voice Systems work,” Zuhaeez recalled his proudest accomplishment that he completed in a month. “[At Greymouse], I learned new skills, have gotten out of my comfort zone and overcame many challenges our team encountered while migrating the old infrastructure to the current one,” Zuhaeez added.

Zu believes that with Greymouse moving forward and continuously bringing something new into the current market, it should be stable in the coming years.

“I love what I do and do what I love here at Greymouse and hope that one day I rise through the ranks to lead my team.”

There is nothing outlandish with having to write new goals, especially as you tick off more than a few of what you had listed looking back.

Like Greymouse and Zuhaeez, let us strive to keep moving forward and never stay still. We have a lot of room to move in— so be fearless as you go through another step!
