A Day In The Life: Virtual Bookkeeper

Published by: Greymouse Marketing | 9 September, 2020

Let’s take a glimpse at a typical day on the job.

It sounds extraordinary, but it’s a fact that balancing sheets can make a fascinating read.

So you’ve heard about our virtual assistants.  You’ve heard about our virtual IT support. Well, today we’re here to give you all the ins and outs of a day in the life of a virtual bookkeeper.

Komal is a reliable and consistent Bookkeeper. She is our esteemed Greymouse Bookkeeper.

Her jobs include a variety of entering creditor invoices, entering daily banking for reconciliation, filing paid invoices, entering/match Purchase Order invoices, sending outstanding invoices to customers – and that too while working remotely.

What has changed for Komal and her clients? For Komal, it’s her clients knowing that they can ask her questions anytime.

When Komal is not working, she is at home with her family or just sitting in the sun by the sea and reading a book. As her friends and Komal say, ‘we live in a paradise’.

Her clients, they are a great group, and she enjoys interacting with them and it makes her excited to get up tomorrow and do it again. What’s better than doing what you love for clients you love working with, from a place – paradise– you love, in a great company with a great team(more like a family) and awesome client. Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Virtual Bookkeeping is rather versatile if you let go of the notion that your bookkeeper has to inhabit the same space as you do. Location aside, all the other rules apply – such as communication is key (written and verbal).

Although the job title might lead you to believe you’ll be holed up alone with your computer and dusty ledgers (wait, do those still exist?), Komal said real-world skills are also essential since you’ll be dealing with clients on a day-to-day basis.

“The best Bookkeepers can navigate those real-world problems for the business owners they work with,” said Komal, who noted that computer and communication skills are also essential.

Komal leaves us with this last advice and reassurance to you, “We may not know everything at once in Bookkeeping, but it is always great to research about things. Our brains can only grab a few things at first but practising it daily will increase this. There is no end to Learning. Every day is a learning day, seize this opportunity.”
